Rajasthan’s second city, once the capital of Marwar, is spread around the impressive Mehrangarh fort, built on a 122m high rock mass. Situated on the edge of the Thar Desert bordering Pakistan, Jodhpur was founded on the old strategic Delhi-Gujarat route used for the Marwari-run trade in opium, copper, silk, dates and coffee among other things. This afternoon we will visit the Mehrangarh Fort which rises up from a 120m high rock above the plain. Within its ramparts, the maharajas built a luxurious palace, now transformed into a museum which houses superb collections of weapons, miniatures, sedan chairs and other princely objects.
